Road Trip - Week 2, Downtown Portland

Mara’s Annual Medicare Road Trip continues! This week we are stopping at another six apartment buildings – mostly in downtown Portland (NW/SW) -- sharing important information and fun too!
Our Medicare education tour is all about helping folks understand their benefits, ask the right questions, and make choices that work for their lives and their budgets. This is the work we do, and we love to help ensure that people can get the best Medicare (and/or Medicaid plans) that work for them and their individual needs.
Postcards from Medicare?

We aren’t receiving postal mail on the road, but you probably get it at home. And this time of year, you may be getting an explosion of health plan advertisements.
And not only is your mailbox likely full of these ads, but your email may be overflowing, your phone buzzing, and seemingly everyone suddenly wanting to talk to you about Medicare!
ROADTRIP TIP: Getting mail can be fun and sometimes informative, but this time of year, you do not have to pay attention to all the ads you are receiving about insurance.
Keep in mind that all those advertisements are invitations to you to shop for an insurance policy, you don’t have to do what they say.
Medicare is a benefit for you. It is your health. It is your choice.
And speaking of shopping... There are lots of great shops in downtown Portland, no matter what you may be looking for. If you are a fan of vintage items like I am, there are lots of great shops where your money can go further, including The William Temple House Thrift Store on NW Glisan and Goodwill on SW 10th. There's no time for our road crew to shop right now, we are busy, busy, busy.
As we head to more places along our road trip route, we are meeting lots of older adults in need of items they simply cannot afford. We know people are struggling in our community due to higher prices. We hope to be able to provide some great ways to give to those struggling at this time of year soon. If you have suggestions of deserving organizations who help those in need in our community, please share details in the comments.
So, whether we’re helping neighbors make sense of Medicare or finding a bargain that makes us smile, the mission is the same: make informed choices, use your resources wisely, and get more out of what you have!
Stay tuned, because this road trip is about more than Medicare. It’s about community, connection, useful information, and discovering the wonderful things right in our own backyard.
Until our next stop — happy travels, smart shopping, and don’t let the Medicare advertising circus drive you around the bend! 😄
