Medicaid Update – Oregon News as of 3/4/2025

As the U.S. House of Representatives attempts to pass a budget which would cut government spending, Medicaid is seen by some as likely to be cut while others maintain that it is too big a program and too popular with Americans across the political spectrum. Who is right and wrong remains to be seen as the budget proposal heads to the U.S. Senate.

In Oregon, the House passed HB 2019, a Medicaid funding bill which now moves to the house.

Per OPB, “The taxes are a 2% assessment on health insurance plans and managed care organizations and a 6% assessment on hospitals’ net revenue…

…The taxes provide about a quarter of the total funding for the Oregon Health Plan, the state’s Medicaid program that pays for health care for people living near the poverty line. That’s due to a federal match the state can take advantage of in funding Medicaid, roughly $3 for every state dollar invested in the program.”
